Last night my wife and I ate at Le Sacre Bleu in Northampton. Very nice place, fairly low key tucked away off Gold St. Superb food and very chilled atmosphere with Chaka Khan providing some jazz improv on the TV screens. Frogs Legs for starters...very nice. Go there if you get chance, the staff were very friendly and showed just the right amount of attention. Twas nice to eat somewhere where the main interest of the waitress isnt to get you in and out the door in as less time as possible.. ..

So last night we in the UK bid fare the well to the 10th Doctor. Sad in a way as it also somewhat signifies the death of another side of my eldests and Is innocence. David Tennant was my eldest sons Doctor as was the guy above next to him to me. We spent many a happy hour watching the exploits of Tennant, Piper, Tate and Ageman over the last few years and it was genuinely sad to see Mr Tennant hang up his sonic screwdriver. Not sure how Matt Smith will get on but im sure he will give it a good crack. Interestingly its the only show on TV that can keep both my 2 and a half year old and my 8 year old quiet for over 1 hour. Please do not cancel this series...

So was asleep last night around 9.45. We were watching an erotic drama on ITV1 last night that was about as erotic as old nappies. Tv as usual for New Years eve was atrocious. Is it because everyone goes out for New Year? Most of the folk i know dont go out these days as its too expensive even just trying to get into your local. So where was the decent TV? I should know better i suppose. My wife asked me this morning whether i heard the fireworks... At first i thought it was a new description of our lovemaking - had i got to the point now where i only hear the fireworks and not feel them? But no she meant the fireworks outside to see in the New Year so i knew i was okay?!?!? I hadnt heard them...

Anyway started off the new year with a brisk walk with Nat and Ver Kids then took down all the xmas decorations and commented as i do every year on how much space there is and how much cleaner everything looks when you take the damn decs down.

My son is obsessed with his new EYEPET for his PS3. It amazes me that he has a dog, a cat and a fish and does nothing with these living breathing beasts but is happy to wash, feed, clothe and play with a virtual simian like creature on the TV. Is this what we are leading to? He is much more happy in a virtual world than being out in the real world. Maybe in the future there will really be no need to go outside i mean we are almost there now.To me it all started when we got indoor toilets. If you think about it you can buy everything you need online now. Maybe in the future we will be born minus legs, we wont even need to look that good because we will date through a virtual avatar and no one will ever meet the actual you so you could be just a pulsing slab of flesh in a chair. Life would be simpler....

Goodbye 2009

Well today is the last day of 2009 or the noughties as they are referred to constantly. How were they for me?...well i am 2 children heavier in life but really i have not done anything else that would amaze or excite anyone. To me the noughties have been about staying level and keeping my head, lovin my wife more and more and trying to be a patient and fair parent. If anyone asked me what i have achieved in the last 10 years i would say i have maintained a relatively happy marriage and managed to bring up 2 lovely boys so far without any major upheavals which i suppose is an achievement in itself. Saying that i am glad the noughties are over and i look forward to being a little more random and off the wall in the 1ties...till next year..salute!

Xmas 2009

So you can see the pic a day post really came off... Had xmas and a pretty bad water infection to boot. Felt like i was pissing hot metal and also my rear end was in some major discomfort. Theres a first for everything i suppose and it was an experience i had never had before so it was certainly a different xmas. I received some Howies Chords, Curb Your Enthusiasm Seasons 4 and 6, Resident Evil 5, The Wire Wall Calendar, I See A Darkness - Johnny Cash Graphic Novel and a nasal hair trimmer (sign i am getting old when i start appreciating things like this but my nasal and ear hair had gotten to being raised as a talking point it was that bad however i revelled in letting it go for some reason) We have also become Singstar addicts and i was amazed that i was able to download Witness by Roots Manuva from the Singstore and have been giving my best shot whilst my eldest son has been feedng his Britney Spears fixation and my youngest has become aquainted with Pinks So What. I swear the more you try to educate your kids musicaaly the more they pull away...

Without fail one of the best movies. I find it difficult to offer any explanation for this film. I saw it first about 10 years ago i think. An old pal of mine who was a secutiry guard at the time picked it up and showed me the cover in a record store i worked in. The cover just attracted me. Its about a small town in america just after a tornado has hit. I knew from the first few words (peanut butter, motherfucker) that i would enjoy it. The imagery is very strong. I think it says a lot about people. The scene where the guys are in the kitchen wrestling a chair is killer. And Korine himself (the director) trying to get it on with a dwarf is heartbreaking. Truly one of its kind. If you dont see this before you expire then more fool you...

Well its been a fair old downer of a few weeks to be honest with small splashes of good news amongst the downpour. It has rained too much also over the last month or so and it must be one of the wettest februarys for ages. Trouble at work, trouble with my pal(he works for me) getting a screwdriver in his eye to name just 2 of the things, i know its almost comical, a screwdriver in the eye. Believe you me when he walked around the corner and asked me to call an ambulance as he had blinded himself it was far from a comedic episode. This guy wants to be a film cameraman. He didnt graze his eyeball, it went straight in... When i think about it it almost makes me sick and how he didnt pass out is amazing. The doctors dont know if he will ever get any sight back, he is convinced he is blind in that eye. I know i should think myself lucky but your own problems always seem worse than anyone elses. After all its what your used to isnt it? You can only equate things to your life and what you consider to be tough going.

Had a crazy dream last night that Tom Waits came around to take me out for a beer, he sang me some of my faves on the way and we caught a boat to an island. We bumped into Chris Evans strangely enough on the island who was living as a recluse ala Howard Hughes (best thing he has ever done in my opinion). Tom took me to a cool little bar where we danced and drank. He also tied my shoe laces together under the table and i fell over when i stood up. Had a good night...

Was out walking the dog early this morning. Its amazing how a day can change. It was very beautiful down at the lakes this morning but the rest of the day has been grey and cold. When Baxter and I came away from the lakes we drove back through the village listening to Palace Brothers - Arise Therefore (without doubt one of the finest albums of music and has to be heard on vinyl) and i suddenly had a thought that one day it will be the last day I hear this album...

Well it seems that avian flu has hit our beautiful shores. My barber (see previous post) had a fair bit to say about this last Saturday as he cut my bonce. Its weird i suppose, we had a big scare a while back then nothing for ages and now...Bernard Matthews ruins our february. Apparently 159,000 birds will be culled!!! I cant envisage what 159,000 turkeys would look like, i think I have only ever seen 1 in real life. I do remember a temporary job i had back in the day. I worked for Safeway and was responsible for taking in deliveries in the underground loading bay. I had to take pallets of frozen turkeys off the wagons and push them at high speed up a little ramp on a pallet truck. I remember I had to build up as much speed as possible running towards the ramp and then pull the pallet truck in just right as i only had about 5 inches either side of the pallet truck and the doorway to this frozen cubicle where they were kept. I had these slippy shoes on and I remember thinking that hell was in fact ice cold and full of gobblers. Bootiful ...just Bootiful. Gnight Bernard...

Getting my hair cut has become a bit of a chore over the last few months. Im at the stage where its just something that i have to get done every couple of months. Gone are the days when i used to care about my hair, i havent really had any sort of style for many years, i had a mean quiff back in the day but what a hassle. Its the same thing every time I go to the barbers these days, grade 4 at the back and sides, trim on top. The guy who cuts my hair these days is a bit of a case for the sheriff. He never shuts up. I know he is a racist and also he is very opinionated on every topic. This morning he was talking about organic food and how there was no organic food really and how it is the biggest scam ever. I tend to agree somewhat but it gets me down how adamant he is that his view has to be right. He also presumes that I am into football and converses with me about Spurs about which I couldnt give a toss. This morning i was a millimetre away from telling him to 'just concentrate on the folicles mate...give it a rest now'...I cant even take my son there with me as he swears like a trooper. I should really try and make the best of the situation and bait him a little...

This year is the year it has hit me. How much cash have we spent on xmas? My wife came back from the Midlands after her visit to the relatives with a car full of presents that would make the grinches sleigh look empty. Jesus Christ! The amount of food that her mom gave her was obscene, I almost threw up just looking at it, I will still be eating the biscuit mountain this time next year, how much chocolate?. Next year I am doing something worthwhile like working at a soup kitchen, maybe I will take my son as there is a real chance that he will grow up thinking this is life. I know it has been said before that xmas is too commercial but it has only really hit me this year. What a jib?

I can remember singing Tread Water with an old pal of mine many years ago in the Labour In Vain in Stourbridge when this first came out.My pal was a profusionist at Birmingham Childrens Hospital until the power of smack overcame him. He got fired for nicking the methadone. Last time I saw him he had lost all his teeth. Very Sad as he was very clever (or maybe not so?) ...Anyways One of the best hip hop albums ever and i dont think there's any cursing!!!

This is my sister. She has grown since this picture was taken.

When my mum and dad split my mum remarried and then my sister was born just over 21 years ago. I suppose some would say she's my half sister but I have never thought of it like that, she's my sister. Full Stop. When she was little she once told me when we were playing that 'before she was born she used to walk with jesus in a garden'. I believe her to this day. She is a photographer and a very talented one at that. She sees things very differently to others. I am very proud of her. Her work has a raw energy. At present she is studying in Manchester and partying hard. I can see her going through exactly what i went through at that age.

I have been looking through some old family photos and found these ones of me. The one of me in the basket was taken at my Nans housein 1971. The others were taken at Blackpool sometime in the late 70s I would imagine. The time the Blackpool ones were taken was not the happiest time looking back but its only now that i remember it being a rough time. When the photos were taken I think I was just growing up and thought that anything strange that was going on was just normal. My Mom is schizophrenic and i have watched her go through many changes over the years. My childhood however was good as far as i was concerned and I do have happy memories.

Saturday Morning - 6.00am

Started this Blog out of wanting something to do... maybe it will give me some focus rather than sitting around drinkin cheap cider on an evening. Its getting colder as we get closer to the winter. One week of work left before we visit Disneyland Paris next weekend. I am both looking forward to and dreading it. I have always hated the machine that is Disney. When i was in the entertainment industry the reps from Disney were like the SS. Woe be tide if you didnt have the disney stock face on.
